EIH - CAUGHT IN A BIND
Article Abstract:
EIH of the Oberoi group is the second largest hotel chain in India, owning over 30 hotels. In India, EIH runs 16 hotels, including 5-star hotels in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Calcutta and Bhubaneshwar. EIH's stock is now being traded at Rs200 on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The shareholders of EIH have lost more than half of their investment value. The fall in the scrip price is due to the political uncertainty and the economic recession which has reduced the tourist inflow into India. Article Abstract:
Genetic engineering, a branch of biotechnology, has enabled the transfer of hereditary material from one organism to another. It has made it possible to produce target structures like receptors in quantities big enough for High Throughput Screening test structures. Biotechnology will affect the operations and survival of many capital intensive industries like fertilisers, mining, energy, petroleum, synthetic fibres and packaging. The competitiveness of pharmaceutical companies is being greatly determined by genetic engineering and biotechnology. (khr)
